Szigligeti Theatre

Writer, dramaturge and director Péter Kárpáti is one of the most important contemporary Hungarian theatre authors, who has taken on dramaturgical and writing tasks for Szigligeti Company in several performances in recent years.

Péter Kárpáti wrote this play at the request of Hungarian theatre director Viktor Bodó, and also for a German theatre in Frankfurt.

This is not a simple stage adaptation: Kárpáti's literary vision and tools – his unique sense of humor, his insight into the depths of reality, and his magnification of surreal elements – are an inspired encounter with Kafka's dark, grotesque but hilarious world. From this encounter, a formally surprising stage story unfolds with the verve of the cabaret. One thing is for sure, the story begins here as it does in Kafka's world-famous narrative: one day Gregor (Samsa) wakes up to find he has turned into a gigantic insect.
